The Coach 2 volumetric incentive spirometers are designed to help patients who have undergone thoracic or abdominal surgery. The patient is encouraged to take long, slow, deep breaths. The Coach measures these breaths and visually indicates the volume achieved during sustained maximal inspiration. Incentive spirometry is intended to increase the inspiratory volume and to prevent post-operative pulmonary complications.
